Finance and information technology have become increasingly inseparable. Advances in IT and its adoption by the financial sector have made the impossible possible and driven major change in the world's financial systems. This trend is especially pronounced in the field of trading. Electronic trading and other advances are spurring rapid change in the equity trading environment for asset management firms, where the growing use of algorithmic trading has been reflected in frequent coverage by newspapers and other media. To gauge these unfolding changes, we conducted a survey of traders at asset management firms. This report summarizes recent trends in trading at asset management firms in Japan as revealed by the survey.
